Nintendo Switch 2 has set a new launch month sales record in the US with 1.6 million units sold in June 2025, surpassing the record set by PlayStation 4’s launch in November 2013 at 1.1 million, according to Circana executive director and video game industry analyst Mat Piscatella

Hardware – Nintendo Switch 2 sold 1.6M units in June, the highest launch month unit sales for video game hardware in US history. The previous high was the 1.1M units of PlayStation 4 sold during November 2013.

According to the latest US sales data from Circana, Nintendo Switch 2 increased hardware spending in June up 249% year-on-year to $978 million. This sets another new record, surpassing the $608 million record that was set in June 2008.

Mario Kart World was the third best-selling game of June 2025 in the US, but its worth noting that the sales tracked by Circana do not include digital copies from the Nintendo eShop or those bundled with the Nintendo Switch 2 console. It’s claimed that roughly 82% of Nintendo Switch 2 buyers also bought Mario Kart World, one way or another.

The best-selling third-party Nintendo Switch games during June 2025 were Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, and Street Fighter 6. Moreover, Nintendo Switch 2 was the best-selling console of June 2025 in both units and dollars.

Hardware – Nintendo Switch 2 was June’s best-selling video game hardware in both units and dollars, while PlayStation 5 remained the best-seller year-to-date across both measures.

Shortly after launch, Nintendo confirmed that Nintendo Switch 2 sold 3.5 million units globally in the first four days on sale. This makes Switch 2 the fastest-selling Nintendo console ever, and perhaps the biggest console launch of all time.
