At Summer Game Fest 2025, Coffee Stain Publishing announced Into The Unwell, developed by She Was Such A Good Horse. In this upcoming action roguelite, players can team up with up to two friends and take on The Unwell, a hostile world inspired by 1930s rubber hose cartoons.
Into The Unwell places an emphasis on each character’s flaws and encourages the player to overcome them. Containing subject matter such as alcoholism, the game appears to be a twisted take on a seemingly innocent cartoon aesthetic. Combined with an action-packed combat system and an oppressive atmosphere, the game promises to be a uniquely intense experience.
For those interested in playing the game before release, a closed beta can currently be signed up for. So far, Into The Unwell is only confirmed to arrive on Steam, with no information regarding other platforms at the moment.

Into the Unwell can either be played solo or with up to two other players. By utilizing odd weapons such as giant ice cream, players will be able to tackle the opponents found in the Unwell. As characters journey through the Unwell, they will encounter bosses and other strange inhabitants.
By progressing, players will be able to earn talent stars, which can be spent on character or weapon upgrades. Additionally, there are other characters to unlock by advancing through the Unwell. These will supposedly be vital in preparing for the game’s boss fights.
As seen in the trailer above, the game appears to prioritize animation to sell its art style. Whether or not the gameplay can live up to bold visuals has yet to be determined, but those who are interested may be able to find out soon. It may be easy to make Cuphead comparisons, but perhaps Into the Unwell will be able to set itself apart.
