Sony Interactive Entertainment released its financial results for the three months ended on March 31, 2025, revealing that PlayStation 5 sales have exceeded 77 million units worldwide. Roughly 77.8 million PlayStation 5 units have been shipped.
According to sales numbers from the financial results, 2.8 million PlayStation 5 units were shipped worldwide during the latest quarter. This is down 1.7 million units from the same period during the previous fiscal year.
124 million active users were on PlayStation Network as of March 31, which is up six million from the same period exactly one year ago. Combined PS4 and PS5 software sales reached 76.1 million units during the quarter, resulting in a 3.5 million increase year-over-year.
5.9 million of the software sales were first-party games, which is down 6.4 million from the same period last fiscal year. What’s more, 80% of the software sales were full game digital downloads, resulting in a 3% year-over-year increase.
Hideaki Nishino is the president and sole CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, effective April 1, 2025. Previously, he was a joint-CEO alongside Hermen Hulst. Hulst serves CEO of the Studio Business Group.
Sony Interactive Entertainment recently established teamLFG, a new studio that originated from developers within Bungie. teamLFG has rallied additional developers from across the industry to develop an “ambitious incubation project.”
According to teamLFG, the studio’s first game is a team-based action game inspired by fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and “frog-type” games. In the game, players will be in a “lighthearted, comedic world set in a brand-new, mythic, science-fantasy universe.”
