Dragon Quest series creator Yuji Horii reconfirms that Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate is still in active development. Horii also commented on the success of Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake and the series’ future on Nintendo Switch 2.

When asked about the development of Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate, Hori told Gamereactor, “Yes, indeed, I can’t say anything, I apologize. I am making it, putting lots of work into it. I can only say that the next work will be great too, working really hard. Please look forward to it, is the only thing I can say.”

Horii acknowledged the Switch 2 and said, “Yes, I believe it [Dragon Quest] could be compatible with Switch 2 as well.”

The next game in the series is Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake, which launches sometime in 2025. Fans can catch up with the first chronological entry in the Erdrick trilogy, Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, which was developed by ARTDINK and Square Enix’s Team Asano.

If you’re interested in learning more about the remake, Final Weapon had the opportunity to preview Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake and spent time with both the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch versions. Additionally, Final Weapon reviewed Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake ahead of launch to see what the entire experience offers.

Lastly, Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition is available for Nintendo Switch via the Nintendo eShop with a permanent price drop to $39.99. On February 1, Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition was temporarily unavailable for purchase due to minor updates being made to the game’s eShop listing. Players who already purchased the game on Nintendo Switch were not affected, as they could still re-download the game at any time.
