Nintendo revealed new details about the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller. As previously revealed in the April 2 Nintendo Direct, the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller ($79.99 MSRP) includes new features such as an audio jack, C button for GameChat, and programmable GL and GR buttons.
According to Nintendo of America Product Development & Publishing senior vice president Nate Bihldorff, via Nintendo Life, developers are able to program the GL and GR for specific inputs in their games, if desired. Players also have the option to assign moves or combos to the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller’s GL and GR buttons.
Nintendo’s Kouchi Kawamoto, Takuhito Dohta, and Tetsuya Sasaki also commented on the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller’s improved d-pad. According to the developers, via IGN, the team made small adjustments and changes to the d-pad. In addition, it is now more difficult to have mistaken inputs while using it.
The developers said, “You may think that every time you see the directional pad that it’s just the same button being reused, but the truth is we do make small adjustments and add small changes every time. I have people – our development and game development teams – try them out when we make a new one.
“This is a more detailed point but for the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller directional buttons, we made it so that it’s even more difficult to have mistaken input. Of course, it doesn’t completely eliminate that possibility but it should reduce it.”
Lastly, Nintendo Switch 2 will launch on June 5 for $449.99, and a bundle featuring Mario Kart World will be available for $499.99. Pre-orders were initially set to go live on April 9, but that date has been delayed as Nintendo evaluates the potential impacts of recent tariffs in the United States.
