Animal Crossing: New Horizons Islands Can Be Transferred to Nintendo Switch 2

Looks like fans may have to wait a little longer for the next Animal Crossing.

Nintendo’s Programming Management Group Senior Director Takuhiro Dohta confirmed that you can transfer Animal Crossing: New Horizons islands to Nintendo Switch 2., according to a recent interview at Polygon.

Dohta said, “So I should clarify that when you do the system transfer, everything like save data will remain on the Nintendo Switch and once it moves to the Nintendo Switch 2 as well. But the [Animal Crossing: New Horizons] island will be an actual move. So it will leave Nintendo Switch and move over to Nintendo Switch 2.”

While the ability to transfer islands is much appreciated, it does raise the question of what this means for the next entry in the franchise. It has been five years since the last Animal Crossing released, and Nintendo has not yet confirmed if or when a new one will release.

It is also unknown whether Animal Crossing: New Horizons will receive an enhanced edition on the Nintendo Switch 2, despite the ability to transfer islands. The game is available now on the original Nintendo Switch

Nintendo held the Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 presentation to focus on the new system. While many first-party and third-party games will cost $60 and $70, certain games such as Mario Kart World will cost $80.

The console will be available on June 5 for $450, and a bundle including Mario Kart World will be available at launch for $500. Pre-orders were initially set to go live on April 9, but that date has been delayed as Nintendo evaluates the potential impacts of recent tariffs in the United States.
