Originally it would've released on March 20, 2026.

According to Sony’s upcoming movie release schedule, the Street Fighter film adaptation has been delayed indefinitely. It has been removed from its initial March 20, 2026 release date and currently has no new release window.

Recently, Sony attached Kitao Sakurai (Bad Trip, The Eric Andre Show) to be the director of the film. Before it, Talk To Me filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippou, also jointly known as RackaRacka, were the directors before departing the project. The reason for the delay is likely due to Kitao also no longer being attached to direct, as the new Street Fighter film no longer has a director. The reason for the departure is unknown.

This wouldn’t be the first Street Fighter live-action film adaptation. In 1994, the world witnessed the first Street Fighter movie. It featured film stars such as Jean-Claude Van Damme and the late Raul Julia. Some fans might also remember the Chun-Li live-action movie that came out in 2009 as well.

The most recent entry in the Street Fighter franchise, Street Fighter 6, is available now on the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Capcom recently collaborated with SNK to release Street Fighter 6 DLC character Mai Shiranui, who’s from the Fatal Fury and The King of Fighters franchises.

Street Fighter 6 will be adding more character outfits for Fighting Ground characters throughout 2025. Further, starting in Year 3, the SF6 Fighting Passes will have new items that players can use in Fighting Ground. Capcom has seen the requests from fans and confirmed that they are working on new Fighting Ground character outfits.

Lastly, the Street Fighter film has been delayed indefinitely and will no longer release in 2026. Sony may reveal more details about the film and its status during the upcoming CinemaCon event.
