According to Bloomberg, Rocksteady is currently working on a new single-player Batman game. It is currently unknown if it will take place in the Arkham universe. Additionally, Bloomberg also revealed more details about the current state of Warner Bros. Games.
After the recent failures of Multiversus, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, and Mortal Kombat 1, Warner Bros. Games portfolio is more limited than ever. Games such as Wonder Woman have restarted development. Further, pitched titles such as games based on The Flash and Constantine have been scrapped. Warner Bros. Chief Executive Officer David Zaslav stated that their video game division is “substantially underperforming its potential.”
Reportedly, Warner Bros. is planning to scale back their video game releases and are considering outsourcing their titles to other companies, similarly to Disney’s approach. With Warner Bros. and DC’s major upcoming films such as Superman, only time will tell how it plans to capitalize on their massive catalog of IPs.
Recently, Rocksteady has faced several layoffs after poor sales of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. The company’s quality assurance has been cut in half and other staff members, including one who was made redundant during their paternity leave. They are now said to be working on a new Batman game. Supposedly, the project is years away from release.
Rocksteady’s most popular franchise, the Batman: Arkham series, are available now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Its most recent game, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, is also available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
