Well, this is something I didn’t expect to happen. Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XIV was hit with a massive server outage across North America yesterday from 5:08 p.m. to 6:20 p.m. (PST). Players who attempted to interact with any of the four logical North American data centers (Aether, Crystal, Primal, Dynamis) were met with connection errors.
At 6:20 p.m., players were able to login into the game, but have experienced increased server queues. If you disconnected while inside a duty and outside of your Home World’s logical data center, you will need to login first in order to process a return request.
This outage also extended to other applications, such as the Final Fantasy XIV Lodestone and the Android/iOS Companion App, where certain features that interact with the North American data centers output a connection error. According to the official notice posted to the Lodestone page, Square Enix stated that this issue was due to a communications carrier network failure.
UPDATE: At 1:13 a.m. PT, a second notice was posted to the Lodestone, stating that players may experience difficulties connecting to the North American data center Worlds due to a DDoS attack.
We will keep you updated as the situation develops. In the meantime, check out our impressions of Patch 7.1. Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail is available now for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
