Boruto Two Blue Vortex Chapter 17 Review – The New Plan

Chapter 17 of Boruto Two Blue Vortex, while short, added some interesting story bits that I didn’t see coming. This chapter is mostly about why Konohamaru, in particular, was selected for the mission. We also get a nice glimpse of Kawaki finally approaching Amado to talk about his true powers.

What Happened in Boruto Two Blue Vortex Chapter 17?

As you may remember from Chapter 16, Konohamaru and his squad met with Sand ninja Yodo and Araya to take the Thorn Soul Bulbs from both Matsuri and Ryu. Doing this will allow the group to save Moegi and Shinki from being trapped in their trees. However, Yodo seems to be willing to risk her life to save Shinki, making Araya worried. Nevertheless, the group approaches Matsuri and Ryu, but something interesting happens. Konohamaru mentions to the humanoid Divine Trees that they are also looking for Boruto, but Matsuri starts blushing out of nowhere. I thought this made sense because this is the humanoid Divine Tree counterpart of Moegi, who has feelings for Konohamaru. It would only make sense for Matsuri to feel the same.

Shikamaru further confirms this, as we see a flashback of him talking with Konohamaru about the mission. Obviously the mission is about subduing the Divine Trees and collecting their Thorn Soul Bulbs, but there’s an important strategy here to accomplish that. Shikamaru believes that the humanoid Divine Trees have no evil intent at the moment and are comparable to newly born offspring of wild beasts. So, becoming friends with them is effective because they aren’t quite fully developed yet in terms of maturity. Then once Konohamaru and the gang gets them comfortable, that’s when he must betray them and attain their Thorn Soul Bulbs.

This creates an intriguing situation because Konohamaru had second thoughts about doing something like this. It seems he doesn’t feel comfortable befriending and betraying them, especially when one of them is a counterpart of Moegi. I do wonder if this willl cause problems in the future, such as Konohamaru struggling to finish the mission. That could lead into a dangerous situation that no one wants happening.

Regardless, Konohamaru makes sure to split the team up to find clues on Boruto’s whereabouts. This is useful because by separating the Divine Trees, they won’t all have to face them both simultaneously when the time comes. We then get a little peak at Boruto and Kashin Koji discussing about Konohamaru’s mission. Boruto becomes very worried that the group will fail, but Kashin Koji reminds him that Boruto is the one person this world cannot lose. Boruto interacting with their mission would only cause Jura to interfere, solidifying a “Game Over” situation.

Jura Arrives in Konoha, and Kawaki Arrives in Amado’s Place

Speaking of Jura, we also see him in one of Konoha’s bookstores. This wasn’t surprising, so Shikamaru quickly lets everyone know to not interact with him and let him be. The last bit of the chapter shows Kawaki pinning Amado to the wall, demanding him to draw out his true powers. I do wonder if this commotion happening with Amado and Kawaki will cause Jura to act somehow. Only time will tell in the next chapter!
