XSEED Games and developer Edelweiss announced Sakuna Chronicles: Kokorowa and the Gears of Creation, a new spin-off based on the Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin action RPG. The spin-off focuses on Princess Kokorowa, Sakuna’s close friend.
According to the press release, Sakuna Chronicles: Kokorowa and the Gears of Creation is the “first entry in an expanding Sakuna franchise,” implying that more games will be on the way. Platforms and a release date were not announced yet.
The press release reads, “Currently in development by Edelweiss, developers of the smash-hit indie action-platformer and rice-farming sim Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin, the title is the first entry in an expanding Sakuna franchise. The game will tell a spin-off story focused on the brilliant Princess Kokorowa, Sakuna’s close friend, who is a high-ranking goddess presiding over wheels and inventions from her heavenly home.”

The anime adaptation of Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin premiered on July 6 this year. The anime is produced by TOHO Animation and produced by P.A. Works. The opening and ending theme songs of the Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin anime are “Hareha! (Sunny!)” by Ikimonogakari and “ORIGAMI” by Little Glee Monster.
Moreover, it’s been confirmed that the Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin anime will continue with a second season. To celebrate the game’s 4th anniversary, it’s also been announced that a new Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin mobile game is currently in the works.
Lastly, Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin is available now for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam.
