In Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, your party members can all be whichever vocation you desire, including Warrior, Merchant, Thief, Monster Wrangler, Mage, and Priestess. However, there’s a powerful class that may prove to be even better than those, as it combines the offensive powers of a Mage with the healing capabilities of a Priestess. This particular class is known as the Sage in Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, and you will need to follow some steps to access it.
In this guide, we will be detailing how to obtain the Words of Wisdom, an scroll item that can be used to turn a party member in Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake above Level 20 into the Sage vocation.
Where to Obtain Words of Wisdom
Location 1: Tower of Transcendence
Our first scroll can be found not too far away from Alltrades Abbey, the place where you’d go for vocation changing. First, climb up the stairs located on the top left portion of the tower to the second floor.
Next, you’ll have to cross the tightrope here to get to the third floor. I recommend slowly moving your characters to ensure you do not fall.
On the third floor, you’ll find a portal that will take you back to the first floor, where you’ll find three sets of stairs. Take the middle one to the second floor.
You’ll encounter another fork in the road. Take the south staircase to the third floor.
Keep climbing the staircases until you reach the fifth floor, where you’ll find another rope. Tiptoe your way to the middle of the rope, and fall down. The remake made this much much easier, as there’s a red triangular flag hanging down in the right location. How handy!
Next, fall into the broken section of the floor located to your left, and use the staircase to go down to the third floor. Next, take the rightmost part, and you’ll find some steps that will take you to a chest that contains the Words of Wisdom.
Location 2: Rimuldar
In the town of Rimuldar, go to the house located near the weapon shop. It is easily identifiable by its double doors. We’ll be going to the right-side door.
Against our better judgment, we will need to interact with the NPC’s drawer on the top rightt. Inside, you’ll obtain another copy of the Words of Wisdom. Perhaps it is better we don’t ask why it is there…
How to Change to the Sage Vocation in Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake
Now that you got a copy of the Words of Wisdom, head on over to the Alltrades Abbey, located just south from the Tower of Transcendence. Alternatively, since you will be making your way here for the main story objective, you can also use a chimera wing or the Zoom spell to quickly head there.
Talk to the priest NPC. You’ll notice that a Sage option will appear in the list of vocations you can choose to change your party members to. Bear in mind that once you’ve done so, the Words of Wisdom item will vanish from your inventory.
Furthermore, that party member will revert back to level 1, but will retain their already learned skills and abilities, and will have a much better initial stat spread. Now, as they level up, your ally will now be able to learn both the offensive-oriented spells from the Mage class, as well as the healing spells from the Priestess class.
