Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake has a series of weapons and armor that your party can equip, including the coveted Sword of Kings. Some weapons are best used in certain classes, while the armor you use can be a great companion in mitigating the damage.
In this guide, we’ll be crafting the Sword of Kings, a sword that can only be equipped by the Hero protagonist. The weapon provides a substantial attack boost, often considered to be the best sword in the entire game for the protagonist.
What does the Sword of Kings do in Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake?
The Sword of Kings is a weapon that only the Hero can equip. It increases the Hero’s attack by +120, and can be used as an item to cast the Kaswoosh spell without spending any MP. The spell itself can hit a group of enemies and deals between 60 to 120 damage.
Step 1: Cantlin’s Broken Sword
First, you must go to Cantlin, which is located here on the map:
Next, look out for a house that has a bulletin board outside, and go inside it. You’ll then want to take the staircase that leads to the 2nd floor.
At the left end of the hallway, you’ll notice a broken sword atop a table. Interact with it, and the NPC will inform you that he has no use for it in its current state. This broken sword is, in fact, the Sword of Kings, which we’ll be fixing in the next steps.
Step 2: Find the Orichalcum Ore
To repair this sword, we now need the mystical Orichalcum, a staple ore in the Dragon Quest series. First, you must go to Damdara, which is here on the map:
On the south part of the town, you’ll find a stable with some horses. Enter the stable through here.
In the corner, you’ll see a blue sparkling spot. Interact with it, which will cause the Hero to dig the ground. Congrats, now you have the sword and what you need to repair it. Why is it in a stable…? Don’t worry about it, let’s just go to the next step.
Step 3: Find the Kol Weaponsmith’s Hammer
When you arrive at Kol for the main story, go inside the Item Shop, as seen below:
Talk to the NPC located on the second floor. He will mention that due to Orochi’s influence, he had to run away with his wife all the way here to Alefgard. And that unfortunately, amid the panic, he left his Forging Hammer in his residence back in Jipang.
Well, that’s not great, is it? So now, we will have to Zoom all the way back to Jipang, which on the remake, is much easier now. The weaponsmith’s house is on the northern corner of town, as seen below. Go inside it.
Inside the house, you’ll find another blue sparkling spot. Interact with it and obtain the Forging Hammer.
Go back to Kol and talk to the weaponsmith in the Item Shop again. A cutscene will play out, where he’ll take the broken sword, orichalcum and his hammer from your hands, and immediately begin repairing it for you.
Once that’s done, voilà, the Sword of Kings has been repaired, and you have now one of the best weapons in the game. If you’re playing on PlayStation, you should have obtained the Bronze trophy associated with it.
Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is available now for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
