Tekken 8 Producer Katsuhiro Harada Comments On Genmaji Stage Controversy

Official post also has Japanese translation

Tekken 8 producer Katsuhiro Harada went to X/Twitter to comment on the latest controversy surrounding Heihachi’s Genmaji stage. To provide context, Heihachi’s DLC inclusion includes the Genmaji Temple stage, which is Heihachi’s home stage and the headquarters of the Tekken Monks. However, even if players are season pass or premium edition owners, they still must buy the Genmaji stage. This has frustrated some players and led to multiple discussions amongst the community on social media. Having said that, Harada took to X/Twitter for some transparency.

Harada starts his comments by saying that he understands the confusion and dissatisfaction regarding the stage DLC. From the start of the game’s life, it was communicated that the Year One season pass would not include stages. However, when the Lidia Sobieska DLC released, a stage was provided as a free update. This led to expectations that future content might follow a similar pattern.

There is a reason for this, though, as the TEKKEN Project team comprises two companies with different roles, responsibilities, and decision-making. One side handles the game’s development, and the other manages publishing. However, the publishing side of TEKKEN Project does not take the TEKKEN community’s opinion into account. Harada moved to the development side and admits he hasn’t been involved in publishing decisions. Harada accepts responsibility for failing to create a structure that would oversee both development and sales decisions while incorporating fan feedback. Going forward, Harada promises to restructure and prioritize community input, aiming to restore a community-centric approach as in the past.
