PlayStation has begun rolling out a new system update for the PlayStation 5, which adds a new feature known as the welcome hub. The PlayStation Blog describes the welcome hub as a “dedicated space you can customize with widgets, allowing you to see information at a glance before you begin your gaming sessions. For players in the U.S, Welcome hub will replace the current Explore tab with enhanced customizability and an upgraded user experience.”
The widgets include console storage, battery levels for accessories, online friends, trophies, and more. Further, you can change the welcome hub’s background. Players can choose from a variety of different designs, including ones based on specific games, and screenshots they’ve taken from previous games.
Recently, PlayStation announced the PlayStation 5 Pro. The new PS5 Pro will launch on November 7 for $699.99, £699.99, €799.99 EUR, and ¥119,980 JPY (includes tax). The console will offer a big performance uplift. Further, the new PS5 Pro aims to deliver smooth 60 FPS with high fidelity visuals. Essentially, it gives the benefits of Fidelity and Performance modes found on PS5 in one.
According to a recent sales statistic from Sony, the PlayStation 5 has passed 61.8 million units sold. The statistic was taken as of June 30, 2024. PlayStation shipped a total of 2.4 million PlayStation 5 units during the period of March to June 2024. This is down 0.9 million from the same period from the last fiscal year.
The most recent PlayStation 5 game, Astro Bot, is available now on the PlayStation 5. The game features six galaxies spanning over 80 levels, as the titular protagonist searches for his crew. Astro will explore lush forests, sandy beaches, hot volcanoes, and otherworldly locales on unique planets. Additionally, over 15 new abilities will incorporate the DualSense controller, and more than 70 new enemy types will be present.
