In the latest edition of Famitsu, a new interview with Kinoko Nasu discussed the Witch on the Holy Night x FGO collaboration, with Nasu revealing that there are no plans for a second collab at this time. The collaboration featured loads of character designs, attacks, and details that have never been released prior to the event. This mainly includes events occurring after the main story of Witch on the Holy Night, with Soujuurou and many others featured with adult character designs. When talking about the challenges faced with this, Nasu wrote in his blog that it “felt like I was writing Mahoutsukai no Yoru 6.”
Additionally, Nasu shared with Famitsu that he will write a sequel one day, “no matter what form it takes.” As you may know, Nasu shared in the past the he plans to tackle two sequels to Mahoyo one day, noting that the series’s story “starts in earnest” with the second game. Unfortunately, it is likely that any sequel won’t release anytime soon, with Nasu’s current project still the remake of Tsukihime, now focused on the Far Side routes in Tsukihime -The other side of red garden-.
When discussing the “forms” a sequel may take, there is a chance that Type-Moon may release the story through an anime or light novel instead of a visual novel. As recent as 2022, Nasu shared that the company is closely monitoring the VN market to determine how a potential Witch on the Holy Night sequel may take shape. In the West, at least, it seems that Type-Moon’s recent releases of Tsukihime -A piece of blue glass moon- and Fate/stay night Remastered are off to great starts.
Currently, a Witch on the Holy Night anime film is currently being produced by Studio ufotable. The studio has a long-standing relationship with Type-Moon, responsible for the production of Fate/Zero, Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works, and the Fate/stay night: Heaven’s Feel movie trilogy. A release date or staff has yet to be confirmed as of the latest trailer.
Witch on the Holy Night is available now for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. Be sure to check out our review here.
