    SEGA Trademarks ‘YAKUZA WARS’

    Perhaps a Sakura Wars crossover?

SEGA has filed a new trademark for ‘YAKUZA WARS,’ which is likely to be a new game in the long-running Yakuza/Like a Dragon series. This comes ahead of next month’s Tokyo Game Show, where RGG Studio is set to reveal its next title. Earlier this year, auditions were held for those interested in appearing in the next Like a Dragon title.

SEGA and RGG have teased that the next Like a Dragon game will be unexpected, and something like a Sakura Wars-inspired Yakuza title would be just that. Of course, this could be completely unrelated to the Sakura Wars property and simply a mere coincidence in naming. Information will likely be released next month at Tokyo Game Show 2024.

The last Sakura Wars title was released in 2019, acting as a reboot of the series. Known as Shin Sakura Wars in Japan, this title combined common elements of action games, RPGs, and visual novels for a new take on the iconic series. No new entries or ports have been released since.

Like a Dragon is one of SEGA’s biggest properties. Earlier this year, the eighth mainline installment, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, released with Ichiban Kasuga and Kazuma Kiryu as protagonists. In Final Weapon’s 5/5 review, we stated the game “is a grand, momentous adventure that sees players control both of the series protagonists in a story that ultimately shapes the future of Like a Dragon.”
