It’s official: Monolith Soft is hiring new staff for Tetsuya Takahashi’s next title. This is the first time in years that the company is hiring for the 1st Production team, which is responsible for the Xenoblade Chronicles series.
This title is referred to as a “new RPG”, with no other details. Takahashi and Monolith Soft are expected to be working on a title for the Nintendo Switch successor, which is set to be revealed by the end of Nintendo’s current fiscal year.
In a new message, Takahashi shares that this recruitment is largely to assist in continuing to provide the scale that Monolith’s title are known for. Even with major titles like Xenoblade Chronicles 2, only around 40 developers worked full-time on the title, which is a remarkable feat. Nintendo’s next console will provide a massive increase in power, with new technologies available for developers to use. This, combined with modern game development struggles, has made game development bigger and longer than ever. New staff will be able to assist in creating the experiences that Monolith is known for.
Also in his message, Takahashi shares that this new title is facing challenges that the company has not faced previously. This, again, is likely related to the number of development staff working with the new technologies of the Switch successor.
Many expect that Tetsuya Takahashi’s next title will be Xenoblade Chronicles 4, but a new IP is also widely possible. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on Monolith and the Xeno franchise as more information is revealed.
