Will Kojima ever work with Konami again?

The production producer of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Noriaki Okamura, has revealed in a new interview that he would love a chance to work with Hideo Kojima. While he doesn’t want to set any expectations, Okamura says that it would be “the dream” for him.

Originally, Konami revealed Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater in May 2023. In October 2023, they revealed a look at the game’s graphics in an Unreal Engine 5 trailer. During the recent Xbox Games Showcase, they showcased several more of the remake’s story, graphics, and gameplay. They also confirmed a physical edition that is available to pre-order.

In a new developer interview with the production producer of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Noriaki Okamura, he stated that he would like “nothing better” than to work with series creator, Hideo Kojima. The statement comes in response to a user-submitted question: “Is there any chance that the original staff members will return to work on, co-develop, or supervise any of the Metal Gear series?” Okamura’s full response was as follows:

“Wow, okay. I can see we’re starting with a tough one, huh. Well, it’s not my place to answer on behalf of anyone outside the company, or to guess how they might feel about it. But just speaking for myself, personally, I’d like nothing better than to work with Mr. Kojima and the rest of the team again. If that could happen, that would be the dream.

But people have moved on to new things and new commitments, and that’s just our current reality. We can’t just take it for granted that everyone would work with us again, or let ourselves be completely dependent on them.”

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will release on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in the future. Konami will likely reveal more details and a release date in the coming months. While it is unlikely that Kojima will ever work with Konami again, his next game, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, will release next year.
