Today, Monolith Soft has opened a new website for its Kyoto studio to attract new talent and outline the studio’s work thus far. The About section describes the work environment in detail, stating that one of the benefits of the Kyoto studio is the flexible dev structure. This team works extremely closely with Nintendo EPD and its various teams to create unforgettable experiences across Nintendo hardware.
Monolith Soft’s Kyoto Studio has assisted in the development of many major Nintendo Switch titles. Most notably, the team played a critical role in the development of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The team also assisted with Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Splatoon 3.
As for the main team, Monolith Soft is best known for its work on the Xenoblade Chronicles series. Nintendo Switch has seen multiple releases, including Xenoblade Chronicles 2 in 2017, Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna ~ The Golden Country in 2018, Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition in 2020, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 in 2022, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed in 2023.
While Monolith’s Kyoto branch has mostly served as support for other Nintendo titles, it certainly wouldn’t be surprising to see the team create its own title for the Nintendo Switch successor. Tadashi Nomura, leader of the Kyoto office, has an extensive background in game development, with titles like Final Fantasy VII and Xenogears under his belt.
