Amazon and Crystal Dynamics have announced that a Tomb Raider series will air on Prime Video in the future. Beloved actress, Phoebe Waller-Bridge (known for Fleabag and Solo: A Star Wars Story), will produce the upcoming series.
Core Design released the first Tomb Raider for the PlayStation 1 in 1996. A collection of the first three games will be available on all consoles on February 14. In 2013, Crystal Dynamics released a reboot of the series simply titled Tomb Raider. A new game in the series is apparently in early development on Unreal Engine 5. Aside from the upcoming Prime Video series, Crystal Dynamics will also be collaborating with Netflix on an anime adaptation.
Amazon and Crystal Dynamics Announces Tomb Raider Series Coming to Amazon Prime
In a recent press release, Amazon and Crystal Dynamics have announced that a Tomb Raider series will be coming to Prime Video. Phoebe Waller-Bridge will produce the upcoming series. This will be separate from Netflix’s upcoming Tomb Raider anime. Additionally, Amazon is currently working with Crystal Dynamics on a new Tomb Raider game. On the official announcement post, Phoebe Waller-Bridge said the following about the announcement:
If I could tell my teenage self that this was happening, I think she’d explode. Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators. Lara means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all.
At the time of writing, it is currently unclear whether or not the upcoming series is live action, animated, or CGI. Amazon and Crystal Dynamics will likely reveal more about the upcoming series in the coming months. Additionally, expect more information about the next Tomb Raider game and anime to be available before the end of the year.
