Another mobile tale comes to an end.

Square Enix shuts down NieR Reincarnation today for Android and iOS globally, nearly three months after the company confirmed the game’s shutdown.

Square Enix released NieR Reincarnation on February 18, 2021 in Japan for Android and iOS. The game is an action RPG that takes place in the thrilling universe of the NieR franchise. On January 22, 2024, Square Enix confirmed that the game would shut down after receiving its final story chapter, “The People and the World.”

    NieR Reincarnation Shuts Down Globally

NieR Reincarnation ended service at exactly April 29 at 10:00 p.m. PDT / April 30 at 1:00 a.m. EDT. This means that the game is no longer playable on Android and iOS, as the servers were taken offline. The official Twitter account for the game thanks players for their support of the game in the past three years.

Leading up to the game’s final story chapter, multiple content updates were released, including new quests, Fate Boards, and reprised events. Several in-game campaigns were held as well, offering various rewards to celebrate the game’s 3rd anniversary in Japan. These rewards and campaigns were available in the global version, too.

The first 12 episodes of the NieR: Automata Ver1.1a anime series are available now to stream on Crunchyroll, making up the first cour. The second cour will likely include another 12 episodes, bringing the total number of episodes to 24. Moreover, fans can expect the second cour to arrive on Crunchyroll as the anime airs in Japan.

NieR: Automata first launched on February 23, 2017 for PlayStation 4 in Japan followed by March 7 in North America and March 10 in Europe. The game would come to Steam on March 17 followed by the Xbox One release on June 26, 2018. Four years later, NieR: Automata would come to Nintendo Switch as NieR: Automata The End of YoRHa Edition on October 6, 2022. Over eight million copies of the game has been sold across all platforms.
