Nintendo Set to Skip Gamescom 2024

    No presentations this year.

Following last Summer and the rumors of Nintendo showcasing the Nintendo Switch successor behind closed doors, it’s now been confirmed that the company will skip the Gamescom 2024 event in Germany this year. In a statement to Eurogamer, Nintendo of Europe said the following on the matter:

“Gamescom is a great event, and each year we evaluate whether Nintendo should participate or not. After careful consideration from all perspectives, we’ve made the decision not to be present at gamescom 2024. Players will have opportunities to try out Nintendo Switch games at other events throughout the year.”

Last year was Nintendo’s first appearance at the event in four years, and it looks like it will now take the year off once again. During Gamescom 2023, multiple reports broke that a Nintendo Switch successor was shown off to developers and publishers behind closed doors. These reports claimed that a new build of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was shown, with the game seemingly running at 4K 60fps. Another report mentioned the Matrix Awakens Unreal Engine 5 demo running on the system utilizing DLSS.

The Nintendo Switch 2 was expected to launch during Holiday 2024, but earlier this year, reports came in that the device was delayed to Early 2025. There are multiple reasons for this delay, but analysts suggest this could be a strategic move by Nintendo to align more first-party software with the launch of this system.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated on Nintendo’s 2024 in addition to Gamescom 2024. While Nintendo might not be attending, Gamescom 2024 is still set to be a major event with loads of new announcements. Stay tuned!
