    Pierce the heavens.

    Published:

This past weekend at Sakura-Con, Aniplex and Studio TRIGGER announced that the Gurren Lagann The Movie 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Set will release in the West sometime this Summer. This set includes 4K copies of both Gurren Lagann The Movie: Childhood’s End and Gurren Lagann The Movie: The Lights in the Sky are Stars

This collection was released in Japan last Fall after the movies returned to theaters. Both of these efforts were part of the 15th Anniversary initiative for the films. The movies made it to theaters in the United States this January, where an English dub was included for the first time ever. Before 2024, neither film received an official English voiceover. All the staff returned to reprise their roles, including Yuri Lowenthal as Simon.

Gurren Lagann was created by Gainax, with Hiroyuki Imaishi serving as Director. The 27-episode series is one of the most beloved mecha anime ever produced, still popular to this day. After the series premiered, two compilation films were released with additional scenes and bonus content. Take a look at the 4K Blu-ray set below:

Pre-orders will likely come soon, including a release date. As with all Aniplex products, expect this item to be a Crunchyroll Store exclusive.

You can check out an overview of the series below via Crunchyroll:

In the distant future, mankind has lived restlessly underground for hundreds of years, subject to earthquakes and cave-ins. Living in one such village are two young men: one named Simon who is shy and naïve, and the other named Kamina who believes in the existence of a “surface” world above their heads. The destiny of these two starts moving drastically when the ceiling of their village falls in, and a gigantic “Gunmen” and a beautiful girl named Yoko, wielding a superconductive rifle, come from the surface. Together, Kamina, Simon and Yoko ride the mecha “Lagann” that Simon digs out of the ground, and fly up to the surface!
