Square Enix announced the “Dawn of a New Era in Junon” update for the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth demo is now available on PlayStation 5. The update allows players to explore a section of the Junon region, and various visual quality improvements were applied to the “Performance Mode” settings.

Players will soon explore the world outside of Midgar in the the highly anticipated Final Fantasy VII Rebirth game, and the free demo is already available on PlayStation 5 for those who don’t want to wait. With only one week remaining before launch, the new update for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth demo gives players a final sneak peek.

The “Dawn of a New Era in Junon” update for the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth demo introduces featuring a section of the Junon region around the harbor town. The area itself is rather limited, but Square Enix wants fans to experience a piece of what’s available in the full game.

In addition, the new update makes visual quality improvements to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’s Performance Mode. Previously, fans noted that the game’s visual quality was less than desirable in Performance Mode due to low resolution textures and other oddities. Square Enix promises that the update’s fixes will be applied to the full game, too.

The Final Fantasy VII Rebirth demo is available now with an early portion of the game’s story and content. Transfer save data from the demo to full game to unlock the Kupo Charm and Survival Set. It’s worth noting that progress from the demo itself does not carry over, however.

Here’s an overview of the demo, via Square Enix:

“Dawn of a New Era in Junon” is available as a free update to the existing demo and sees Cloud, Tifa, Barret, Aerith and Red XIII emerging into the outskirts of Junon, a fortified stronghold replete with an underwater reactor. Set several hours into the main storyline, this special preview made specifically for the demo features a small piece of the massive in-game world that players can freely explore. Sniff out treasures with a trusty chocobo steed, craft valuable items with the new Item Transmuter, bravely embark on thrilling Combat Assignment missions and more.

Now is the perfect time to download the two-part demo to prepare for the worldwide release of FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH. Players who complete the first part, “Fall of a Hero in Nibelheim,” will receive the Kupo Charm and Survival Set demo incentives and be given the option to skip the same section in the full game upon release**, allowing players to get an early start on their adventure. Or if players prefer, they can choose to experience the section all over again.
Although save data from the “Dawn of a New Era in Junon” section cannot be carried over to the full game, as the content has been altered for a more compact experience, fans and newcomers can try out new forms of exploration while using powerful synergy attacks and witnessing the character bonds expressed through combat.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is set to launch exclusively for PlayStation 5 on February 29, 2024. The title will be exclusive to the platform until May 29, 2024. A Standard Edition, Deluxe Edition, and Collector’s Edition are available to pre-order now.
