What Happened in Frieren Episode 22? (Recap)
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End episode 22 saw Frieren, Fern, and the rest of the mages on their break after completing the first test of the First-Class Mage Exam. After Stark woke up late at the local inn, Frieren and the crew went to the best diner Äuberst had to offer. Frieren reminisces about her past journey with Himmel once more, since she actually visited the diner all those years ago.
The episode delved into the happenings of the rest of the mages too, such as Wirbel, Denken, Übel, and Lawine and Kanne. Most notable, Übel revealed her “empathy” copy ability, which allows her to use the magic of mages that she empathizes with. This will likely come into play in the second stage.
After Wirbel recruits Stark for a quick monster hunting mission, Lawine and Kanne spend time with Frieren and Fern and gift them snacks as a gift. Soon after the girls have a chat, messenger birds carry important notices to all the mages in Äuberst. The notice confirms that the second stage of the exam will begin soon with Sense as the proctor. This proctor is notorious for not passing a single mage in any of their tests.

Lastly, Crunchyroll’s overview of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End reads:
The mage Frieren defeated the Demon King alongside the hero Himmel’s party after a 10-year quest. Peace was restored to the kingdom. Because she is an elf, she is able to live over a thousand years. She promises Himmel and the others that she will be back to see them and then sets out on a journey by herself. Fifty years later, Frieren goes to visit Himmel and the others. She remained unchanged, but Himmel and the others have aged and only a little of their lives remain. Later, she witnesses Himmel’s death. Frieren is pained by her desire to have spent more time getting to know people. With that regret in her heart, she then goes on a journey to do just that. On her journey, she meets many people and many events await her.
