Nintendo has announced that the Splatoon 3 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe championships will now be held in Japan on April 13 and 14. Nintendo previously delayed the events due to threats against staff and commentators.
In December 2023, Nintendo cancelled their Nintendo Live event due to threats. Nintendo Live is “an all-ages celebration of Nintendo fun, whether you’re new to the games, characters, and worlds of Nintendo or are a lifelong fan.” Fans can enjoy live stage performances, watch tournaments, play games, and more. Nintendo held the last iteration of the event in Seattle. They would’ve held the next iteration in Tokyo if not for the cancellation.
Splatoon 3 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Championships Set for April
In a recent tweet from the Nintendo of America Twitter/X account, the company confirmed that the previously delayed Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Splatoon 3 tournaments will now be held on April 13 and 14. Nintendo will hold the event in Japan. According to the tweet, Nintendo will reveal “livestream details” about the event in the coming weeks and months. Both Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Splatoon 3 are available now on the Nintendo Switch. The former recently received a major series of updates in the form of the Booster Course Pass. The expansion added several new courses and characters to the beloved racing game.
The latter released in 2022. Splatoon 3 has received several updates such as new weapons, maps, and more. Further, Nintendo will release a new expansion for the game in the form of the upcoming Side Order DLC. It will release on February 22. Here’s an overview of the upcoming DLC expansion, via Nintendo:
