The mysterious Lakan will seemingly make his presence known to Maomao in The Apothecary Diaries episode 15. Lakan’s motives are unclear, but the new episode will likely bring some answers while Maomao continues her duties as Jinshi’s assistant.
The first cour of The Apothecary Diaries ran for 12 episodes, captivating audiences around the world during the fall 2023 anime season. In the second cour, Maomao returns to the palace after Jinshi buys her from the Verdigris House. As Jinshi’s assistant, Maomao will continue to aid the ladies of the emperor’s palace in episode 15 and beyond.
The Apothecary Diaries Episode 15 Release Date and Time
Episode 15 of The Apothecary Diaries premieres on January 20 at 10:45 a.m. PDT / 1:45 p.m. EDT on Crunchyroll. A total of 12 episodes will be released in the second cour, with 9 more to go after the release of episode 15. By the second cour’s finale, 24 episodes would have been released for the first season of The Apothecary Diaries.

What Happened in Episode 14?
Lady Loulan enters the emperor’s rear palace as the new Pure Consort, replacing Lady Ah-Duo from the first cour. She seems reserved and arrogant to a degree, which certainly gets Maomao’s attention when she’s called up to be a teacher to the emperor’s concubines. Maomao is eager to teach ladies Gyokuyou, Lishu, Lihua, and Loulan about some arousing secrets while keeping Jinshi out of the loop. Despite Loulan being a focal point of the episode, the latter half of the episode switches to an incident at the outer palace’s warehouse.
Maomao reunites with Lihaku, whose fallen in love with Pairen from the Verdigris House. Lihaku recounts an incident from the previous night, as an explosion was heard in the warehouse, causing a scene for the military on standby. Lakan and his subordinate, Rikuson, investigated the situation before vanishing from the scene. Maomao and Lihaku proceed to investigate the debris left behind from the explosion, discovering that a pipe caused flour to catch on fire and explode an entire storage facility.
At the end of the episode, Maomao looks over the pipe and wonders if she can fix and sell it for a good price. Another scene plays out in a tavern, as one man laments his love life in a seemingly drunken stupor. The episode ends with a preview of episode 15, as Maomao gets her next assignment from Jinshi.
Episode 15 Preview
Episode 15 sees Maomao take on an assignment regarding some strange raw fish at the palace. Since Maomao was the emperor’s taste-tester for poison, she will likely need to eat some of the raw fish to ensure its not a danger. Lakan may be seen acting mischievously for some reason.
