What Happened in Frieren Episode 18? (Recap and Preview)

Episode 18 of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End saw Frieren and Fern train for two months to prepare for the First-Class Mage Exam. Once the day finally arrived, the two characters were placed in separate groups alongside other promising mages. Fern is in a group with Übel and Land, while Frieren joins Lawine and Kanne.

Lawine and Kanne make for an interesting pair, since the two girls are always at each others’ throats. However, Frieren realizes that the two are actually really close friends that support each other and work well as a team. The first phase of the exam sees all groups attempt to catch strange and powerful birds known as Stiles. The exam area is quite dangerous, so it brings its own set of challenges as well.

In episode 19, Frieren and her new teammates will need to work out a new strategy in order to pass the first phase of the exam. Check out the new preview images below.

While waiting for the new Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End episode, fans can watch episodes of the Frieren mini anime. Six episodes have been released so far on TOHO Animation’s YouTube channel. Lastly, Crunchyroll’s overview of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End reads:

The mage Frieren defeated the Demon King alongside the hero Himmel’s party after a 10-year quest. Peace was restored to the kingdom. Because she is an elf, she is able to live over a thousand years. She promises Himmel and the others that she will be back to see them and then sets out on a journey by herself. Fifty years later, Frieren goes to visit Himmel and the others. She remained unchanged, but Himmel and the others have aged and only a little of their lives remain. Later, she witnesses Himmel’s death. Frieren is pained by her desire to have spent more time getting to know people. With that regret in her heart, she then goes on a journey to do just that. On her journey, she meets many people and many events await her.
