Square Enix confirms that 4v4 foam party shooter FOAMSTARS will launch on February 6 on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 at no additional cost for PlayStation Plus members. Various details about the game’s post-launch support have been revealed as well.
FOAMSTARS is developed by Square Enix’s Creative Business Unit II, which is in charge of the Dragon Quest and NieR series. An open beta was held in September 2023, giving PlayStation gamers a glimpse of what’s to come at launch. Square Enix also teased more news would arrive on January 16, resulting in today’s release date announcement.
FOAMSTARS – PlayStation Plus, Season Pass, and More Details Revealed
PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive FOAMSTARS for free as part of the PlayStation Plus monthly games lineup for February 2024 on February 6. The game will be available at no additional cost until March 4. After March 4, the game will be $29.99 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 and requires a PlayStation Plus subscription.
FOAMSTARS will receive seasonal updates over the course of a year. Seasons will includes new content, cosmetics, playable characters, maps, and game modes. Each season will feature an optional Premium Season Pass for $5.99, allowing players to immediately fast track Season Pass progression.
At launch, players will have access to the Smash the Star, Happy Bath Survival, and Rubber Duck Party PvP modes. Foamstar and Squad Missions will also be available with solo and team-based PvE content. This content is designed to help players hone their skills before diving into PvP matches. Moreover, the game will include in-game challenges that feature rewards such as playable characters and XP.
