FOAMSTARS is Developed by Square Enix’s Creative Business Unit II

The studio behind NieR and Dragon Quest.

At PlayStation Showcase, Square Enix revealed a brand new multiplayer title called FOAMSTARS. The title received very mediocre reactions as many felt it looked like a lifeless copy of Splatoon; however, media impressions from Summer Game Fest Play Days were extremely positive about the title.

One of the biggest questions about FOAMSTARS is who the developer behind the title is. Thanks to a discussion from Easy Allies, we now know the developer of this upcoming title. To some, it might be pretty surprising.

The Developer of FOAMSTARS Is Creative Business Unit II

Square Enix has not released any public information online regarding anything about the title; however, we have plenty of new information from the Play Days event. Easy Allies, in their SGF discussion video, said the following at the 54:30 mark: “It’s weird, though, because they specifically call out that the team making it is people that work on Dragon Quest and NieR. Creative Business Unit II, I think they said?”

Creative Business Unit II is the team behind the Dragon QuestNieROctopath Traveler,  and Bravely series. The former staff of Luminous Productions has also joined this division of Square Enix.

Easy Allies also stated that they were told the game would have a single-player campaign of sorts. Additionally, there are a total of four classes available and multiple different multiplayer modes. The mode shown off in both the trailer and gameplay demos is the 4v4 PVP mode.

You can use the foam to build walls or different structures, which you can then navigate on and around using your surfboard. Also, building up mountains can be useful to gain vantage points on your enemies. Much of the game’s mechanics have yet to be revealed but stay tuned to Final Weapon for all the latest on FOAMSTARS as Square Enix releases more information.

FOAMSTARS has no release date currently and is set to launch only on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 as of now.
