Rocket Panda Games announced Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds and Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds Overdrive will be delisted on March 4, 2024. The upcoming remaster, Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds Ultimate, will replace the original game.
At Tokyo Game Show 2023, Rocket Panda Games revealed Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds Ultimate was being developed in Unreal Engine 5. The new title will be available in 2024 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. Before its release, the original game and its Overdrive version will be delisted.
Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds to be Delisted
With Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds Ultimate releasing next year, Rocket Panda Games ultimately decided that Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds and Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds Overdrive should be delisted. According to the developers, the game’s original engine makes it impossible for the team to make updates or add new content. This is the main reason behind the upcoming Unreal Engine 5 version.
Although both games and related DLC will no longer be available for new purchases from March 4th 2024, those who currently own the game and its DLC may still access it from their library without interruption.
“The staff at Rocket Panda Games have been fans of Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds since its original release over 10 years ago on Xbox 360,” Rocket Panda Games said in a new blog post. “In that time, technology has advanced and the bar has only gotten higher for games. The engine on which the original games were built is simply not conducive to being updated or added to, which makes it impossible for us to make any meaningful updates or add new content.”
Several improvements will be made in Phantom Breakers: Battle Grounds Ultimate. The remaster includes a retuned battle system, up to eight players in co-op, playable enemy characters, an enhanced original soundtrack, and a new opening song. All new opening song performed by the Phantom Breakers consisting of the in-universe characters, Mikoto, Waka, Itsuki, Yuzuha, and Maestra perform the opening song together.
Lastly, Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds is available on Xbox 360 and PC via Steam, and Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds Overdrive is available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PS Vita until March 4.
