Autumn Games and Hidden Variable Games announced Skullgirls 2nd Encore DLC character Marie is planned for a Q1 2024 release. She’s available right now in Steam Early Access as the developers prepare for the DLC character’s full release.
The previous DLC character released for Skullgirls 2nd Encore was Black Dahlia this past March. The developers have been hard on work on Marie ever since, and the Steam Early Access release is a promising sign for the full release.
Marie Storms into Early Access in Skullgirls 2nd Encore
A new trailer for Skullgirls 2nd Encore confirms Marie is available in Steam Early Access. This means that Marie is playable for Season Pass owners, but the character still needs balance tuning and other adjustments. Currently, Marie is now fully animated and colored, which means the sketchy black and white animation frames from the playable alpha are not longer there. Moreover, she has all her voice lines and sound effects fully tuned.
Marie will release sometime in Q1 2024 if development goes according to plan. She will be available with a full stage, a new story mode, a balance patch, over 30 color palettes, character tutorials, and an alternate voice pack. The new story mode will delve into Marie’s relationship with the Skull Heart.
The Skullgirls 2nd Encore development team also confirms that the Season 1 Pass character story modes will be updated with full voice acting in a new update. However, this update will not be available until after Marie’s release, since the team is still organizing voice recording sessions for the large returning cast for characters that appear across Skullgirls 2nd Encore’s 18 story modes.
