    SEGA Dismisses Likelihood of Future Acquisition of the Company

    Don't expect Microsoft to buy SEGA anytime soon.

    According to a recent interview with SEGA COO Shuji Utsumi, the company has no plans to be bought in another company’s acquisition. The announcement comes a few days after SEGA’s recent game, Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name

    SEGA has had several successful games of the last few years. Examples include new entries in the Like A Dragon series, Sonic Frontiers, and Sonic Superstars. Additionally, SEGA’s next few games are set to be Persona 5 TacticaPersona 3 Reload, and Like A Dragon: Infinite WealthAmidst a massive lineup, Utsumi has stated that he does not believe that the company will accept any acquisition attempts in the future. 

    SEGA Has No Plans to Be Part of an Acquisition

    In an interview conducted by CNBC, SEGA COO Shuji Utsumi talked about the likelihood of a future company acquisition. He stated that, “many companies are interested. We feel honored. We have attractive IPs and potentials[…] I don’t think that kind of transaction is going to happen.” 

    The statement comes amidst major acquisitions in the gaming industry. One example includes Xbox’s purchase of Activision/Blizzard. Further, there is also Sony’s purchase of iSIZE, an AI company that helps with enhancing bit rate. SEGA has also recently announced that a “super game,” that “stands head and shoulders above normal games,” will release by March 2026. SEGA will likely reveal more details on this major game in the coming years. 

    SEGA’s next game, Persona 5 Tactica, will be available tomorrow on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch. The company’s most recent game, Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name is also available on all the consoles mentioned above.

    With such a historic lineup, SEGA is primed to have a massive next few years. A lack of a company acquisition immediately separates them from other companies in the industry. Lastly, they will likely reveal more details on their future titles in the coming months and years.
