Star Ocean The Second Story R is a deep RPG with a lot of challenging sections along the way. The skill system also requires tons of points to progress your characters how you like. What’s the Level Cap?
When you play most RPGs you expect a level 99 or 100 level cap, right? Well, in Star Ocean, the typical cap is actually 255. Wow, that will take a while to reach, huh? Don’t worry, you only need to be around level 85-100 to do all of the main content in the game.
Useful Skills
Leveling up fast will take a bit of work, but once you do what I tell you the levels will keep on pouring in! First, level up everyone’s Training Skill. This gives them EXP and SP/BP bonuses in each fight. The higher the level the higher the multiplier. Next, you should level up someone’s Scouting. This allows you to search for enemies, making chaining encounters easier. This also gives you yet another multiplier. If you keep up with content in the game, you should have the ‘Free Fight’ battle formation by the time you reach Laceur (round or about). This gives you even more experience multipliers when your Bonus Gauge fills up. There’s even an auto-battle skill called Bodyguard (Super Specialty from leveling Scouting) where your party members will automatically defeat green enemy symbols. This can be useful if you want some downtime when grinding. Finally, when you get an Experience Card, replicate it. Popping it in battle doubles your gains. If you do all of this you will gain immense power quickly, although you may have to progress further in the story to fight stronger foes in order to get even higher gains.
Post-Game
Level 255 is actually important here. You can fight stronger bosses, power up the final boss, and tackle a bonus dungeon. Leveling will be important here and also aide you in getting stronger equipment to supplement your raw power.
