Tsukihime -A piece of blue glass moon- Rated by the ESRB

Releasing in 2024 for the first time in English.

Tsukihime -A piece of blue glass moon-, also known as Tsukihime remake, has been rated by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB). This is another promising sign of the game’s English release, which is scheduled for 2024.

During July’s Anime Expo 2023 event, Type-Moon finally confirmed that Tsukihime -A piece of blue glass moon- would finally come to the west nearly three years after its Japanese release. The game is coming to both Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, and both console versions have been rated by the ESRB.

Tsukihime -A piece of blue glass moon- ESRB Rating

Tsukihime -A piece of blue glass moon- is rated M for Mature by the ESRB. The M rating is not a surprise due to the game’s content, but it’s a positive sign since ratings typically imply that substantial progress has been made on development/localization.

Here’s the official ratings description from the ESRB:

This is a visual novel in which players follow the story of a high-school student who encounters vampires and ghouls in Japan. As players progress through the narrative, they view stylized story sequences (mostly still images), some depicting violence and blood: blood splatter; pools of blood; characters killed off camera; a character’s hand repeatedly stabbed.

The text includes descriptive details of violent acts (e.g., “I stab, I cut, I slice, I carve. Severing piece after piece until nothing is left…”; “After listening to the weakling beg for its life, she begins her meticulous work…Once the other arm is gone too, she swaps her tools and sets work on its inside.”). Some sequences depict severed limbs and dismembered body parts in large pools of blood. A female vampire is depicted partially nude, with exposed pelvic area (no genitalia), and her arm covering her breasts. The words “f**k” and “sh*t” are heard in the game.

Originally released in August 2021 in Japan for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, Tsukihime -A piece of blue grass moon- is the first half of the Tsukihime remake project by Type-Moon. The remake includes a rewritten scenario by Kinoko Nasu with new characters and plot changes. The game’s story follows Shiki Tohno, a high school student who “sees the lines of death” after an accident in his childhood. The remake features the Near Side routes featuring heroines Arcueid Brunestud and Ciel.
