Sabotage Studio announced Sea of Stars surpassed a total of 250,000 copies in the game’s first week following its launch. This is one of the most successful launches for an indie title in 2023, and the game blew past the studio’s sales expectations for the entire year.
Sea of Stars is a new turn-based RPG inspired by classic Japanese RPGs from the 90s such as Xenogears, Chrono Trigger, and Final Fantasy. Xenoblade Chronicles series composer Yasunori Mitsuda contributed to the stellar soundtrack of Sea of Stars. Over 100,000 copies were sold on launch day, and several more copies were sold in the subsequent six days.

The official X (Twitter) account for Sea of Stars confirms the game’s sales have surpassed a total of 250,000 copies. Over 150,000 copies were sold after launch day, making this one of the most successful indie launch weeks in 2023. Sabotage Studio confirms that this particular sales goal was initially projected for one year after launch. The developers thank its fans for the tremendous support.
Sea of Stars is a day one title for PlayStation Plus Game Catalog, so downloads do not count toward sales. PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members may redeem and download the game right now at no additional cost. The game is available on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 digitally.
Additionally, iam8bit will distribute a physical edition of Sea of Stars in early 2024 for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox versions. However, the PlayStation 4 version was not confirmed for the physical release. In addition, fans in Europe may look forward to the physical release.
