Guilty Gear Strive Season 3 ‘Large-Scale Update’ Teased

Substantial changes are coming to Guilty Gear Strive.

Arc System Works released the 14th volume of Developer’s Backyard, which teases a “large-scale update” for Guilty Gear Strive Season 3. The developers tease a “fresh new experience” for Guilty Gear Strive’s third season.

The last DLC character for Guilty Gear Strive Season 2 was Asuka #R. Shortly after the release of the DLC character and the version 1.27 update, Arc System Works confirmed that development of Season 3 was underway.

Guilty Gear Strive Season 3 Update and Changes

Guilty Gear Strive producer Ken Miyauchi and director Akira Katano teased Season 3 in their latest Developer’s Backyard blog post. According to the staff, a “large-scale update” for Season 3 will release during the summer. Subsequent updates will bring a “fresh new experience” for players, and the network lobby will receive substantial stability improvements. Fans can also expect balance changes for the entire character roster, new battle mechanics, and new special moves. More details are coming in the near future, and EVO 2023 appears to be the stage for such information.

Here’s what the developers had to say:

“With Guilty Gear Strive entering its third year, we are working on a large-scale update for Season 3, planned for release in summer of 2023. And while we must be somewhat tight-lipped at the moment, we are planning multiple updates that should bring a fresh new experience even for players dedicated to playing one main character.

Our first step towards realizing this will be adding not only new faces to the roster but also implementing balance changes for the entire cast, new battle mechanics, and new special moves for some of the characters.

In addition, the network lobby is planned to receive improvements to stability, and we intend to push forth a number of other updates in preparation for future changes that are to come.

Please stay tuned for further details in the near future.”

Update: Arc System Works shares Guilty Gear 25th anniversary video message from series director Daisuke Ishiwatari:

Lastly, Guilty Gear Strive is available now for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Windows.
