Persona 5 Tactica Details New Characters, Setting, and Gameplay Mechanics; New Screenshots

A Kingdom and not a Palace?

ATLUS released a new edition of “Nyahoo News” detailing new characters and gameplay mechanics in upcoming strategy RPG Persona 5 Tactica. Although Persona 5 Tactica is a strategy RPG, various core mechanics from the Persona 5 / Persona 5 Royal return.

In Persona 5 Tactica, the Phantom Thieves are sent into a mysterious “Kingdom” and attacked by a group known as the Legionnaires. The Kingdom’s ruler, Marie, brainwashes the Phantom Thieves with the exception of Joker and Morgana. The leader of the Rebel Corps, Erina, quickly arrives on the scene to rescue them and escape Marie’s pursuit. Erina takes them to the Rebel Corps hideout, which looks exactly like Leblanc in the real world. Joker, Morgana, and Erina then proceed to plan a rescue mission for the brainwashed Phantom Thieves.

Update – July 18: ATLUS shared new screenshots and artwork for Persona 5 Tactica characters Ann, Ryuji, Toshiro, and much more!

Persona 5 Tactica Setting, New Characters, and Gameplay

Ryuji, Ann, and the rest of the crew are back in Persona 5 Tactica, but Joker must undo the brainwashing cast on these characters by Marie. Marie’s Kingdom is themed after a grand wedding, and the tyrant is planning to abuse her power and the kingdom’s people. After making a deal with the Rebel Corps, Joker and the remaining crew launch a rescue mission in a nearby prison. However, they find a businessman named Toshiro Kasukabe. Kasukabe appears to be a young diet member in line to become Japan’s Prime Minister, but Joker remains suspicious of the character. Soon after Toshiro’s rescue, Joker and the crew find out Marie has found a wedding partner.

During battles in Persona 5 Tactica, allies and enemies can take cover behind walls and obstacles. While in cover, characters will enter a guard state upon the end of a turn. The guard state allows characters to take reduced damage or negate it completely. Players must be careful while being near walls since enemy attacks may trigger “1 More” and inflict more damage, however. Melee attacks and skills are useful for knocking enemies out of cover, crushing their guard state, and triggering 1 More.

As previously discussed, characters have unique Voltage Skills that may turn the tides of battle in the player’s favor. Personas may use traditional skills to inflict status aliments. For instance, casting Zio may cause an enemy to remain paralyzed for one turn. Party members may be developed further by spending Growth Points in the Skill Tree. Growth Points are earned by winning battles, raising levels, and watching Talk conversations at the hideout.

Lastly, Persona 5 Tactica launches on November 17 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Windows and Steam.
