One of the most popular anime released in 2023 was Trigun Stampede. Stampede is a spiritual successor to the 1998 anime Trigun. Rejuvenated with a new story, new visuals, and an almost entirely new cast of voice actors thanks to Studio Orange, Stampede was a massive hit for fans and newcomers alike. It initially aired in the Winter timeslot, which started back in January.
After the announcement of Season 2 from Studio Orange, many people may wonder when they’ll be able to see the continuation of Vash’s story. Here’s everything we know about Season 2 of Trigun Stampede.
What is Trigun Stampede About?
The Trigun manga was first released in 1995 and lasted until 1996. It initially focused on the tales of Vash: a pacifistic gunslinger who has a bounty of “60 billion double dollars” on his head. Along the way, he fights bounty hunters, meets new friends and confidants, and seeks to confront his dark past head-on. The premise is unique and highlights the potential and versatility of the space Western genre.
In the years since, the premise was adapted in various ways. From a 1997 follow-up manga called Trigun: Maximum to a 1998 (partial) anime adaptation, the legacy of Trigun has evolved and persevered through the years. Trigun: Stampede is the latest adaptation that combines manga and original anime elements.
It features the return of beloved characters Meryl and Wolfwood and new characters like Roberto De Niro. The unique visual style and fresh storytelling have made it a must-see anime this year. Since the end of Season 1, fans are eagerly anticipating Season 2.
Is Season 2 in Development?
After Season 1 ended, Studio Orange officially confirmed that Season 2 is in development. In a tweet, they confirmed that Trigun Stampede‘s “Final Phase” is coming soon. In a separate post, they elaborated on what to expect:
“Vash will rise again. After all, he is Vash The Stampede. Their future may seem blank at the moment but we will be working behind stage till the next curtain rise. Your every support becomes fuel for our engines.”
Currently, Studio Orange is developing the last season of their other hit anime, Beastars. Orange has confirmed that the final season will be released in 2024. Therefore, it stands to reason that we probably won’t get the second season of Trigun Stampede until mid to late 2024.
What Will Season 2 of Trigun Stampede Be About?
Season 1 of Trigun Stampede left a lot of hints about what to expect from the following season. The ending teased the supposed death of the series villain Knives and the disappearance of Vash the Stampede. A bounty of 60 billion double dollars is placed on his head, and the supporting character Meryl will get a new partner named Milly to help her find the gunslinger.
Milly is a fan-favorite character introduced in the original manga. She was an insurance agent that worked alongside Meryl with a goofy and fun personality that contrasted with her partner. Fans can be sure the next season will heavily feature her in a leading role. The ending of the season also hints at another character named Chronica.
Chronica is another self-aware plant, much like Vash and his brother Knives. However, Chroncia was never present in the original anime, instead playing a significant role in the last few arcs of the manga. Time will only tell if she will ally with Vash or become another enemy gunning for his head.
Either way, fans can be sure that the second season of Trigun Stampede will be a thrilling continuation of the first. For those who want to try the series, be sure to check it out on Crunchyroll or Hulu. Be sure to stay tuned for more information about the future of the Trigun series.
