Spice and Wolf is returning with the new anime series Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf. While it’s uncertain exactly when the series will air, the new Spice and Wolf anime will arrive sometime in 2024. This new series will feature the return of Jun Fukuyama and Ami Koshimizu in their roles as Kraft Lawrence and Holo.
This project was teased last year, but details have been scarce until now. Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf will be animated by Passione. In addition, Takeo Takahashi will return as the chief director of the series. Another staff member from the original series, Hijiri Sanpei, will return to direct. The new anime will also be produced by ENISHIYA and the music will be composed by Kevin Penkin.
The 2024 release window was announced alongside a new trailer, which is viewable below. This new trailer gives viewers a glimpse of what to expect from the new series. It also gives fans a chance to see a few of Lawrence and Holo’s interactions with each other. In addition, an official website for the series is up, although it is only available in Japanese.
Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf Trailer
Details surrounding the story of the new anime series are thin, but many strongly suspect that it will be a remake. However, according to the Spice and Wolf Twitter account, Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf will be a “new journey”. What exactly this new journey entails isn’t made clear, but the anime appears to at least be a reboot of the series.
The Spice and Wolf series follows Kraft Lawrence, a traveling merchant, and Holo, a harvest goddess. The series originated as a series of light novels that began in 2006. Since then, Spice and Wolf has received an anime adaptation with two seasons in addition to the upcoming anime series. However, the 2024 Spice and Wolf show will mark the first anime adaptation since 2009. This means that Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf will be the first Spice and Wolf anime in about 15 years.
