Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth has been officially announced by Annapurna Interactive. The trailer was revealed formally at Annapurna’s recent showcase, along with the official Steam page.
Blade Runner 2033 is the first time there’s been a game set in the Blade Runner franchise in 25 years. The upcoming release will also be the first game to be developed internally by Annapurna Interactive. Currently, a release window is unknown.
The World of Blade Runner
The trailer for Blade Runner 2033 reveals more of what to expect from the story and world. The game takes place between the original movie and 2049. Specifically, it is set a few years after an event known as the “Black Out.” You take the role of the titular Blade Runner. In extended media, Blade Runners have one task: to hunt down human-like androids named Replicants. However, after the Black Out, you’re out of a job. The game’s description asks: “What does a Blade Runner do when there are no Replicants left to hunt?”
This is not the first Blade Runner game that’s been released. In 1997, a point-and-click game called Blade Runner was released on PC. The game achieved cult status and recently received a remake in 2020. It’s unknown whether or not the new game will be a traditional point-and-click adventure game. After all, based on some of the screenshots from the trailer, it could end up being a third-person shooter/thriller. Only time will tell how the gameplay of Blade Runner 2033 will function.
Blade Runner 2033 Release Information
Currently, Blade Runner 2033 doesn’t have a release window. All we know is that the game will eventually release on both PC and Consoles. The original Blade Runner game is available on Steam for a discounted price during the Steam Summer Sale.
There are also several Blade Runner movies and anime to check out before the game releases. While there is currently little information about the upcoming release, fans can look forward to more details soon about the upcoming cyberpunk thriller from the world of Blade Runner.
