Final Fantasy XVI: How to Skip Cutscenes

    Published:

Final Fantasy XVI is almost here. Releasing on June 22, 2023, the game is set to be one of the most ambitious games in the entire franchise. That ambition also extends to the cutscene. Final Fantasy XVI is set to include a whopping eleven hours worth of cutscenes. If you’re into rushing games or aren’t prepared to deal with eleven hours’ worth of cutscenes, you may wonder if there’s a way to skip cutscenes. Here’s an overview of how to skip cutscenes in Final Fantasy XVI.

Can You Skip Cutscenes in Final Fantasy XVI?

Thankfully, the newest Final Fantasy does include the ability to skip cutscenes. This will be useful if you are trying to speedrun the game or you’re set back to an earlier save and must go through hours of cutscenes again.

Based on the demo for the game, it’s pretty easy to skip cutscenes. All you have to do is pause the game during a significant cutscene. Once you do, you will be asked to either “Resume” or “Skip” the scene. These, thankfully, extend to all cinematics.

    How to Skip Cutscenes

    1. Pause the cutscene using the Options button on your DualSense Controller
    2. Hold Triangle to skip the cutscene (there will be a message about this in the bottom right corner as a reminder!)

It’s that easy! You can skip any cutscene you’d like, which does especially help if you’re playing through the game on New Game Plus mode or just not interested in the story.

Final Fantasy XVI is not the first Final Fantasy game to allow you to skip cutscenes. Final Fantasy VII Remake, for instance, had a similar feature where you could pause the game and skip the cutscenes. However, the ability to skip cutscenes did not extend to cutscenes that occurred during a boss fight. If you were trying to fight the Hell House for the fifteenth time, you could skip the cutscene that led into the fight but not the scenes during the fight. It remains to be seen if Final Fantasy XVI will allow you to skip over gameplay cinematics.

Final Fantasy XVI will release on June 22, 2023. It will be available exclusively for the PlayStation 5. Check out Final Weapon’s Final Fantasy XVI coverage in our Compendium, available here!
