Today during the Final Fantasy XVI Special Pre-launch Livestream, it was announced that the game would receive a day one patch after all. This patch addresses a number of issues but does target optimization overall.
The team originally said that they had no intentions of releasing a day-one patch. However, they felt it was important to address these issues prior to launch for a smooth experience across the board. There was also an issue involving progression that would not have allowed players to complete the game. Here are the issues this patch will resolve.
- Fix a control flag issus which can make progress impossible under very specific circumstance
- Fix an issue wherein the game could close unexpectedly under very specific circumstance
- Optimize performance in several places
- Fix some minor text errors
The first Final Fantasy XVI patch will arrive on June 20 and take up around 300MB of space.
Final Fantasy XVI is being developed by Creative Business Unit III, led by Director Hiroshi Takai and Producer Naoki Yoshida. CBUIII is behind the critically acclaimed MMO Final Fantasy XIV, which continues to grow each year.
Clive Rosfield is the main protagonist of the title, voiced by Ben Starr. He is the only playable character, as the game has a high action focus, or at least more so than previous Final Fantasy titles. Combat design has been directed by Ryota Suzuki, who was a key member of the Devil May Cry 5 and Dragon’s Dogma combat design teams.
