    Final Fantasy XVI is the next entry in the lauded RPG series. Final Fantasy as a franchise has always had some of the biggest talents available on the development team. Producer Naoki Yoshida is a welcome addition and is an integral part of the style of Final Fantasy‘s newest entry.

    Who is Naoki Yoshida?

    Naoki Yoshida was born on May 1, 1973, in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan. Many fans adoringly refer to him as Yoshi-P. He dreamed of being a game developer since his formative years and has been fulfilling his dream for the past 30 years.

    Naoki Yoshida is a top creative at Square Enix. He has been in several roles for many different games, mostly in some sort of leadership position, from Lead Design to Directorial or Producer roles. He is also currently on the board of directors at Square Enix.

    What’s His Role in FFXVI?

    Naoki Yoshida has taken on the role of Producer for Final Fantasy XVI. Yoshida chose this role to help balance his ongoing duties as Final Fantasy XIV‘s director. Saving himself too great of a workload in the process. Yoshida’s leadership skill allowed him to pick and choose the right people for the job, thus formulating the key staff of Final Fantasy XVI to have the qualities he deemed best suited for creating the next blockbuster entry of the series.

    Yoshida has also been front and center in the press and advertising of Final Fantasy XVI. There is an ample amount of interviews and livestreams of him discussing the game in great detail. After his success with Final Fantasy XIV his name alone acts as a stamp of quality. 

    What Has He Worked on Previously?

    Dragon Quest X Online

    Yoshida worked at Hudsonsoft before he arrived at Square Enix. Some of the prior games he worked on include Bomberman 64: The Second Attack as Story Mode Director.

    When Yoshida started at Square Enix, he was on the Dragon Quest team and made contributions to Dragon Quest: Monster Battle Road as Director. 

    He later played a pivotal role in the development of Dragon Quest X Online. He was the Chief Planner. His competency in this position would later lead to him achieving the role he would later become best known for, as the producer and director of the reborn Final Fantasy XIV Online.

    After the commercial and critical failure of the original Final Fantasy XIV, he was part of the new team tasked with the restoration and redevelopment of the game. This would later be Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn and all of its subsequent patches and expansions.
