Is Final Fantasy XVI Coming to Steam Deck?

Can you check out the latest Final Fantasy on Steam Deck?

Final Fantasy XVI and the likelihood of a release for Steam Deck or PC is a hot topic right now. With the release imminent on June 22, many fans are curious if the game is indeed coming to Steam Deck.

XVI is the latest entry in one of the longest-running game series ever. Final Fantasy is celebrating its 36-year anniversary this year, and what better way to do that than release the sixteenth mainline installment? Here is everything we know about Final Fantasy XVI releasing on Steam Deck.

Will Final Fantasy XVI Release on Steam Deck?

At this time, a XVI release for the Valve Steam Deck is not confirmed. This is to be expected, though, as the game is a PlayStation 5 exclusive for a good bit. Until December 31, 2023, Final Fantasy XVI cannot leave the PlayStation 5 platform for any other release. So, we will not be able to play the title on Steam Deck until 2024 at the earliest.

While this might be disappointing to fans of the system, it is just the stipulations of the agreement Square Enix and PlayStation agreed to. The game has been confirmed to release on PC in the future, so once it does drop there, it will be available on Steam Deck. If you have a PlayStation 5 and a Steam Deck right now, you do have the option to play the game on Deck next week.

How to Play Final Fantasy XVI on Steam Deck

    Final Fantasy XVI

If you have both a PlayStation 5 console and a Steam Deck, you can use a certain method to play XVI on the Deck next week. This involves the utilization of PlayStation’s Remote Play feature, which allows you to stream the game from your PlayStation 5 to an external device.

There is a software called Chiaki that you can install to make this possible without installing Windows on your Steam Deck. If your Steam Deck is running Windows, download the Remote Play app from PlayStation’s website. If you’re on Linux, follow the steps below.

    1. Install Chiaki by activating Desktop Mode and heading to the Software Center. Here, you can add the software to your library.
    2. Turn on your PlayStation 5 before launching the software.
    3. Then, click on Chiaki and open it from your Steam Deck.
    4. Head to this link and enter your PSN username to get your PSN Account ID. After inputting it, you’ll receive an Account ID and an Encoded ID. Copy the Encoded ID.
    5. On PlayStation 5, head to System Settings, then Remote Play, and finally Link Device. You’ll get a PIN to enter, which you will insert into Chiaki.
    6. That’s it! You’ll have a linked Steam Deck and can enjoy Final Fantasy XVI on the go!

Obviously, this method does have many stipulations considering it is through Remote Play. However, this is all we have right now, and it does work, so technically, you can actually play XVI on your Steam Deck if you really want to.
