Assassin’s Creed Mirage Gameplay Showcases Returning Series Mechanics

    Back to basics.

The first gameplay demo for Assassin’s Creed Mirage was officially revealed at the Ubisoft Showcase. The trailer demonstrated a return to basics for the series, reimplementing the stealth and parkour mechanics that made the series what it is. A new story trailer was also released alongside the gameplay demo.

    Assassin's Creed Mirage

The gameplay demo for Assassin’s Creed Mirage showcased the world of Baghdad and the many options for traversal. Players can use parkour to navigate over and around buildings within seconds. This harkens back to the mechanics that the original Assassin’s Creed games used to rely on that have since been left by the wayside in games such as Odyssey and Valhalla.

The new trailer also confirms returning features to stealth combat. Players can take advantage of throwing knives and smoke bombs, as well as blowdarts to quickly neutralize enemies. The player also has access to the series’ trademark Eagle, allowing protagonist Basim to mark enemies on the HUD. There is also a new ability dubbed Assassin’s Focus. The player can use this to take down opponents within seconds, all without raising any alarms or suspicion.

The Ubisoft recap hints at more information from the game’s story. “The story is set in ninth-century Baghdad, and centers on the young version of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s Basim, a common thief haunted by visions. Basim soon starts a journey to become a master assassin, mentored by Hidden Ones Fuladh and Roshan (the latter of whom is voiced by Shoreh Aghdashloo).
