Inescapable Demo Preview – A Taste of Hope and Despair

Aksys Games and Dreamloop Games’ Inescapable: No Rules, No Escape looks to be an enticing and thrilling visual novel that takes cues from the renowned Danganronpa and Zero Escape franchises. The Inescapable demo provides an exciting one-hour glimpse into the full game’s potential as Harrison, the protagonist, is thrown in an unpredictable situation on a remote island. Although the premise sounds very familiar, Inescapable manages to present an intriguing opening with refreshingly new ideas.

Harrison is a 23-year-old bus driver from London that reminisces about his best friends from long ago. A sudden invitation for a friendly reunion in Spain excites Harrison in the game’s opening scenes. As he’s waiting for his bus ride to finally commence, the atmosphere becomes more lively with new passengers getting on board. However, a dire situation presents itself when the bus is flooded with a mysterious gas. While drifting into unconsciousness, Harrison wonders if everything was too good to be true.

A First Look Into the Demo: An Inescapable Situation

The first few scenes of Inescapable tells Harrison’s backstory concisely as the unconfident and friendly protagonist that may prove to have some useful skills while in peril. After being knocked unconscious by gas, Harrison wakes up trapped in a container. The first Zero Escape-like mini-game of Inescapable presents itself with Harrison needed to connect power to the container door in order to open it. This is the only mini-game within the demo, so its only a brief sample of what players can expect during crucial moments of Inescapable’s story. After freeing himself from the container, Harrison is greeted by Mia, a 23-year-old German programmer and oldest sibling of a big family. The two characters become aware of their mysterious new smartphones that don’t have access to the outside world, further solidifying their remote surroundings.

Harrison and Mia realize that a resort is not far from their current location, and several others are waiting. The game’s voice acting begins to shine as players are introduced to the unique cast of Inescapable. Inescapable’s cast is mostly made up of intriguing and polarizing characters that represent a country from Europe. Their cultural differences and beliefs will clash, but the group still has members that tend to gravitate toward each other. After everyone has gathered at the resort, all of the new smartphones begin to ring with a call from a sinister duo. These two new characters introduce themselves as the ringleaders for a dark web live show. The cast is subject to the duo’s twisted machinations and constant surveillance for six months, but surviving members will each win €500,000. From here on out, the title of Inescapable: No Rules, No Escape takes on its meaning in stride.

Inescapable Demo Gives Hope and Quickly Takes it Away

The cast becomes acclimated to their new resort setting and current situation, but the thought of escape always lingers. This idea leads to a moment that caps off the Inescapable demo, ensuring that escape may not be the right call after all. The demo drives home the idea that escape is not worth pursuing, but perseverance may be key for survival. Inescapable will likely present situations where a false sense of hope will be deadly for some characters in the full game. A single hour of Inescapable is able to present a familiar and interesting narrative with unique twists to call its own. If the demo is an indicator of what Inescapable has to offer from start to finish, then Danganronpa and visual novel fans are in safe hands this fall.
