Gameplay for Spider-Man 2 Finally Revealed

    Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is finally shown off.

Today’s Playstation Showcase ended with a gameplay reveal of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The trailer opened with a look at Kraven the Hunter looking for the “equal” that he mentioned in the first trailer. It cuts to a perspective of Queens, where Peter Parker, now donning the black suit in new gameplay that pits him against Kraven’s goons. The gameplay showcases Peter’s new combat potential with the symbiote, as well as the new traversal options given to Miles Morales, who the player is able to switch to with just the push of a button.

    Lethal Protector

Peter’s new gameplay is appropriately brutal. The symbiote enhances his strength, giving him some new techniques with both his hand-to-hand combat and his webbed skills. He uses tendrils to cross battlefields without any effort whatsoever. I have a feeling that Peter will be a treat to fight as.

On the flip side, however, Miles Morales on the surface has remained unchanged. He can still turn invisible and use his electric abilities. However, a closer glance reveals that he has the web wings from the comics, allowing for more unique traversal options. He also has new electric abilities including what looks to be a Hadouken.

Additionally, the gameplay teases some of the story. We see the Lizard, one of Spider-Man’s oldest villains, bounding across the city in an epic chase. We also hear a little bit of information about Harry Osborn, and his worsening condition that was teased in the last game.

    Be Greater. Together

The gameplay is both a visual and technical marvel, more than living up to the hype from Insomniac and Sony, as well as fans. The trailer ends with a new tagline: Be Greater. Together. The PlayStation Blog has this to say:

“It’s a banner day for Spidey fans! We’re delighted to finally show you the first-ever gameplay of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the next installment in our original Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise, which will launch in Fall 2023. There’s a lot to unpack about today’s gameplay reveal, so let’s highlight some of the big stuff…

As many sharp-eared Spidey fans noticed in our announcement trailer in 2021, Kraven the Hunter. This version makes his debut appearance in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and he’s in search of an equal. That spells bad news for the inhabitants of Marvel’s New York including a rogue’s gallery of villains and the Spider-Men, Peter Parker and Miles Morales. Between the start of Kraven’s Great Hunt and an all-new Symbiote threat to Earth-1048, our heroes have their work cut out for them. “

They end the blog post by saying how they “know you have been patiently awaiting more information about the game, including when you will be playing it at home. While we can’t confirm a date today, we are on track for Fall 2023, and hope to be able to share a final release date soon. Stay tuned for future updates on Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, including edition information and pre-orders.”

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is still set to release in Fall 2023. Stay tuned to Final Weapon for more news on both Spider-Man 2 as well as other games covered at the PlayStation Showcase.
