    Bungie Announces New Marathon Game

Bungie's cult classic series makes a return

A new Marathon game by Bungie is on the way. For those not in the know, Marathon is one of Bungie’s oldest IPs. The first game in the series dates back to 1994 and is in some ways considered the spiritual predecessor to Halo. Bungie would make two sequels, but the series hasn’t seen any new games since 1996.

A release date for Marathon is not yet known and gameplay has yet to be shown. However, we do know the game will be a PvP extraction shooter, which may come as a disappointment to those hoping for a single-player experience. However, there are still many details we currently do not know about the game. Marathon will be the first non-Destiny project Bungie has worked on in quite a long time.

    What is Marathon About?

The player will take on the role of a “Runner”, a cybernetic mercenary that can handle harsh planet conditions. Your goal is to collect alien artifacts along with other objectives as you make a name for yourself. You can tackle these objectives on your own or with a team.

While not in great detail, Marathon‘s website describes a bit of the game’s lore:

a massive ghost ship hangs in low orbit over a lost colony on tau ceti iv. the 30,000 souls who call this place home have disappeared without a trace. strange signals hint at mysterious artifacts, long-dormant ai, and troves of untold riches. you are a runner, venturing into the unknown in a fight for fame… and infamy. who among you will write their names across the stars?

    Reveal Trailer:

Sony recently acquired Bungie in 2022, but surprisingly, the game will be coming to Xbox Series X|S and PC in addition to PlayStation 5. Marathon will also support cross-platform playing and saving. Be sure to give the trailer a look.
